EATING OUT

Food is a passion of ours, particularly when we are on holiday. If you also enjoy good food and would like some local knowledge, we have listed our favourite places and what we usually order.  We have menus for most places and if you would like us to reserve you a table anywhere just ask.

Local Pub  -  Bolton Arms  -  Redmire (200 metres)

Brilliant Local Pub. Excellent value home made food and a good pint of Black Sheep.   Opens all day for lunches, afternoon tea and  evening meals.  Just been taken over (February 2011), redecorated and has a great atmosphere.

Lorri's favourite  -  Steak & Ale Pie

Dave's favourite  -  Chicken leeks and Jervaulx blue cheese

Expect to pay £30.00 for a large main course for 2 including drinks.

Our Favourite Restaurant  -  The Wensleydale Heifer  -  West Witton (6 miles)

Probably the best restaurant in The Dales; primarily seafood (delivered fresh daily from Whitby),but also offers meat dishes as well.  The food is sublime, the service is very pleasant, relaxed rather than stuffy.  Dress code, you would be at home in a smart pair of jeans or your best suit.  Expect to pay £70.00 - £100.00 for 2 including drinks, unless you take advantage of their 'Early Bird' menu, (Tues-Fri 6pm - 6.30pm), same food but a limited menu, brilliant value at around £20.00  each for 3 courses, plus drinks.

Our favourite  -  Lobster, Scallop and King Prawn Salad. Total indulgence but everything is superb.

If you fancy going let us know and we'll do our best to get you a table.

Our Favourite Pub Food  -  The Bridge Inn  -  Grinton (6 miles)

Great Pub, always busy, log fire, friendly staff, serves food all day and runner up in CAMRA 2009 so the beer's good too!  Top end bar food, all home made and good value.  Expect to pay £30.00 - £50.00 for 2 including drinks, but you could eat for less than £20.00 for 2 for just a main course, plus drinks.

Lorri's favourite  -  Fish, Chips & Mushy Peas (Best anywhere!)

Dave's favourite  -  Pheasant with Mushroom Tart (when in season)

Must be followed by Liz's Ginger Pud - heaven!

If you enjoy Folk music go on a Thursday as a group of very talented musicians (mandolin, violin, guitar etc)  sit round a table in the bar and entertain you from 9.00pm for free!  www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqVaZsu8pq0

Our Favourite Foreign Food  -  Saffron  - Leyburn (5 miles)

Excellent Indian run by 7 guys from Bradford who travel daily.  Great food and menu and quite a modern setting, particularly for 'The Dales'!  Expect to pay £40.00 - £50.00 for the full monty for 2 including drinks or less than £20.00 for 2 for just a main course, plus drinks.

Lorri's favourite  -  Chicken Passanda

Dave's favourite  -  Chicken Desi Masala

We start with a Chicken/Prawn Puri (sometimes to share as they are huge!)

Our Favourite Bistro  -  White Swan - Middleham (6 miles)

Lovely setting in the Market Square.  Old Hotel with a modern Bistro offering varied choice of good food.  Ideal place for a group, try and sit in the window as it can be a bit dark at the back as they tend to only have candles lit at night.  Expect to pay £40.00 for 2 courses for 2 including drinks.

Dave's favourite  -  Chicken, blue cheese and smoked bacon risotto

Lorri's favourite  -  Home Made Steak Pie & Mash

CB Inn  -  Langthwaite, Arkengarthdale  (12 miles)

Very popular old Inn serving restaurant quality bar food, makes for an enjoyable evening out, well worth the drive in summer through stunning scenery.

No real favourites, varied menu, all very good.  Expect to pay £70.00 for 3 courses for 2 including drinks.

George & Dragon  -  Aysgarth (4 miles)

Lively Pub/Restaurant, always busy with an AA Rosette and well deserved.  Expect to pay £60.00 for 3 courses including drinks.

Our favourite  -  Sweet Chilli Squid Salad, followed by Belly Pork and Sticky Toffee Pudding to finish.
