Local Attractions and Things to Do

The medieval fortress of Bolton Castle built in 1336 is visible from the lounge window less than 1/2 a mile away and the world famous Aysgarth Falls are 3 miles walk across the fields or 5 minutes by car. For train enthusiasts the Wensleydale railway runs from Redmire to Leyburn and on to Leeming Bar.

The Forbiddden Corner folly garden is an excellent day out for adults and children alike on your way to Middleham~the Newmarket of the north , The Black Sheep Brewery at Masham, and The National Trust's Fountains Abbey.

Other local attractions include the Creamery at Hawes~the home of Wensleydale Cheese, the Caves at Ingleton and White Scar  passing The Three Peaks and Ribblehead Viaduct on the way. You can then go to the delightful town of Kirkby Lonsdale and return via the pretty Dales village of Dent.

There is a castle at the old town of Richmond, also a tiny Georgian Theatre and  The Green Howards Regiment museum.

There are gardens Constable Burton and an arboretum with birds of prey and mammals at Thorp Perrow.

The market town of Leyburn which is 5 minutes away boasts more than just a picture postcard location. Home to the annual Dales Festival of Food and Drink, Leyburn's outdoor markets and speciality stores has turned the town into a haven for foodies.

Away from the towns is peace and tranquility and it's  possible not to meet another person for miles.
